Zoey Hu

Associate

Zoey (Ziyan) was born and raised in Guangzhou, China, and moved to the United States at sixteen to pursue her education. Her cross-cultural background shaped her global perspective and early interest in business and entrepreneurship. She attended Emory University, where she earned a double major in Finance and Quantitative Sciences. After graduating, Zoey joined the Consumer & Retail Investment Banking group at Nomura in New York, where she advised consumer companies on mergers and acquisitions, strategic financings, and capital markets transactions across the beauty, wellness, and broader consumer sectors. Zoey later joined Amberstone as an Associate, where she focuses on conducting diligence and supporting investment analysis across emerging consumer brands.

Why consumer?

I grew up in Guangzhou, China, in a family that deeply appreciated design, craftsmanship, and everyday products that shape how people live. Coming from a family of architects, I was surrounded by conversations about aesthetics, functionality, and how thoughtful design can improve people’s daily lives. This perspective made me naturally curious about the products people choose and the brands they connect with. Moving to the United States exposed me to a completely different consumer landscape and made me realize how closely culture and consumption are intertwined. From beauty routines and food traditions to wellness practices and lifestyle habits, consumer products often reflect identity, heritage, and evolving cultural values. Experiencing two cultures firsthand gave me a deeper appreciation for how brands can bridge cultural differences and introduce new ideas, traditions, and ways of living to broader audiences. This perspective shaped my interest in the consumer sector. I’m particularly drawn to founders who build brands rooted in authentic cultural narratives, thoughtful product design, and strong communities. At their best, consumer brands do more than sell products. They shape behavior, foster cultural exchange, and create meaningful connections in people’s everyday lives.
